Washington Mutual Bank was one of the largest banks in the United States Until recently. Washington Mutual Bank was overly exposed to the sub prime lending sector. The bank also offers auto loans, student loans, checking, and savings accounts.
Washington Mutual Bank has locations that remain open in several states. During the banking crisis the government deemed Washington Mutual Bank to not have enough reserves and cash to operate. For this reason the bank and all of it's assets were taken over by JP Morgan Chase. Most locations have converted to Chase Bank locations but a few locations specializing in various finance markets remain open under the Washington Mutual Bank name.
Washington Mutual Bank more popularly known as WaMu is now owned by JP Morgan Chase after a buy out in 2008. Chase bank employs more than 200,000 people in more than 60 countries. Chase bank, formerly Washington Mutual Bank, offers branch, ATM, telephone and online banking, credit card, small business finance, home finance and home equity loans, auto finance , education finance and insurance, though under the WaMu name they only offer branch, ATM, telephone and online banking, credit card, business banking and home finance and home equity loans. The FDIC has increased its deposit insurance coverage through JP Morgan Chase to at least $250,000. All savings, checking, and CD's are covered.
Washington Mutual Bank was acquired by JP Morgan Chase recently. Before Washington Mutual was acquired, it was one of the biggest Bank categorized by Savings and Loan. Washington Mutual was primarly in the west coast of USA. Since Chase Bank had less presence in West coast they bouught Washington Mutual to expand their franchise. Washington Mutual is now called Chase bank. They offer customers savings and checkings accounts. Chase Bank is continuing the tradition of offering free Checking account which Washington Mutual used to offer as a standalone bank. They offer home mortgage, home equitey, personal and auto loans to their customers. The Bank offers Business Checking and various small business services and loans as well. They offer their customers many financial products and brokerage services as well.
